  • Peter Rives, LCSWA, LCASA

    Part time therapist, (he/his/him)

I am originally from New Hampshire, but after moving around a lot early in life, I’ve now adopted North Carolina as my home and have been here now for most of my life. I attended Wake Forest University as an undergraduate and majored in Psychology. I then studied Social Psychology at the University of Delaware before returning to NC to pursue a career in the public behavioral health system in a variety of organizations and roles spanning nearly two decades. I have been in the role of Assistant Director of Wellbeing at Wake Forest University since 2016 and recently returned to school to earn my master's degree in social work (MSW) from UNC Chapel Hill with a specialization in mental health and addictions.

As a clinician, I see myself as your partner. My primary role is to help to create an environment of trust, compassion, acceptance, and empowerment in which you can explore ways in which you might want to change your situation. Often, people who are struggling are doing the best they can in their circumstances and a supportive, therapeutic setting can help them to see their situation from a different angle. I work with clients of any identity who may be experiencing any of a variety of concerns. I am particularly interested in substance use, process addictions, anxiety, trauma, and eating and body image concerns.

Outside of work, I enjoy outdoor adventures, music, being handy, and spending time with my amazing family. I have a real superstar of a partner, four spectacular kiddos, and a veritable menagerie of furry and feathered pets.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate (LCASA) in NC. I am a trainer in Motivational interviewing and a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.

  • Lisa Carr

    Lisa Carr, LCSW

    Full Time Therapist, (she/her/hers)

I am a Winston-Salem native who left to finish high school in Durham (GO Unicorns!!), then attended Hampshire College in Amherst, MA where I completed an individualized BA in studio arts and philosophy. After living in several major cities along the eastern seaboard and working in a variety of settings and roles, I returned to Winston and completed a Master’s in Social Work at UNC-Chapel Hill. While I am not traveling as much as before, I still enjoy exploring the trails and waterways with my daughter, being outside with our assortment of wild and domestic critters, and remain curious by nature- reading, watching, discovering, and making things.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment within which my clients may feel safe to be and express themselves, to explore and consider options, and to discover ways to redefine and/or realign with their inner values and strengths. My education and experience have focused on healing from trauma and/or abuse including interpersonal violence, assault, abuse, secondary trauma/burnout, and experiences of depression and anxiety including OCD. I also enjoy working with people experiencing major life transitions including adjustments to college, parenting, retirement, and/or career changes. I find my experiences within the creative arts and sciences provides me great flexibility in assisting each individual client in finding the right path to progress towards their goals. Approaches I frequently use include EMDR, somatic exercises, mindfulness, CBT/DBT, acceptance and commitment therapy, internal family systems, and creative arts.

  • Caroline Heidsick

    Clinical Intern, (she/her/hers)

Moving to North Carolina from California before attending college, I am a lover of all things travel and nature. In the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, I attended North Carolina State University where I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology. After graduating, I took a year to gain experience and further develop my personal and professional goals. I am currently a graduate student in my last year at University of North Carolina-Greensboro and will earn my Master’s degree in Counseling with a focus in couples and families in December 2024.

I have a passion for helping people reconnect with themselves and their loved ones and see myself as a guide to help you find the wisdom that already exists within you. Knowing the power of the therapeutic relationship, I highly value unconditional acceptance of my clients and prioritize cultivating a space that feels safe and comfortable for everyone. As a neurodivergent person myself, I have a particular interest in working with those who identify as neurodivergent or want to explore the role neurodivergence may play in their life.

While graduate school takes up a majority of my time, I always make sure to refill my cup by exploring nature trails with my husband, birdwatching, or having craft nights with friends. As a former specialty coffee barista, you will likely find me making or consuming some form of coffee at any given time. I also love caring for my husband’s and my two cats, Ozzy and Lua, and my copious number of plants.
